We have a portfolio that comprises a wide range of high purity and ultra-high purity mineral fortification additives and other functional additives to serve the requirements of the food, beverage and nutrition sector, including the areas of both human and animal nutrition.  Honeywell has a long history as a supplier of high quality products to these sectors, and is focused on gaining a fundamental understanding of the technology challenges and needs encountered by customers, and on developing customized solutions to meet these needs. Honeywell Specialty Chemicals’ Riedel-de Haën brand products are manufactured at Honeywell’s facility in Seelze, Germany, which is certified against ISO/TS 16949, ISO 9001 and 14001.

In the beverage sector consumers continue to seek healthier alternatives to soft drinks, and this has resulted in significant growth in the functional water, flavored water and purified water markets over the next few years.  Many of these waters are re-mineralized with inorganic salts of potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium in order to provide functionality such as taste profile, and add-on health and wellness benefits. A major challenge for producers of these beverages is ensuring that they are in compliance with regulations for bromate levels in water. For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations permit a maximum bromate limit of 10 parts-per-billion in drinking water.  The existence of bromates in bottled water is often due to the choice of ozonation as the disinfection method for the bottled water.  During ozonation, bromates can be formed when bromide impurities, which are present in the minerals added to the water, are oxidized by ozone. At Honeywell, we have developed a range of very low bromide minerals to assist bottled water manufacturers in meeting regulations for bromate levels.  In addition to being low bromide, Honeywell’s minerals are certified as kosher and meet the analytical specifications of USP and the Food Chemicals Codex.  

Fortification and Nutrition
	Minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium are important nutrients that are essential for the health and well-being of the body. As consumers continue to seek a healthier lifestyle, food and beverage manufacturers are responding to that need by developing an ever widening variety of mineral fortified products. To support the needs of this market we offer a wide range of high purity and low bromide minerals that meet pharmacopoeia (Ph.Eur., USP) and food additive standards (FCC), and are suitable for formulation of purified bottled waters, functional waters and beverages, and for fortification of a variety of food products.

Animal Nutrition
	We offer special special high purity hypophosphites and hypophosphorus acid grades that are used as active ingredients in veterinary supplements and veterinary medicines for the treatment of calcium and phosphorus deficiency in animals.
